WATRI is a joint venture between Curtin University of Technology and the University of Western Australia that brings together, in one location, researchers with a verifiable track record of attracting significant government and industry R&D funding, world class research, and commercialisation of research though the establishment of startup companies.
WATRI focuses on five key research areas: wireless systems, signal processing, networking, lightwave and electronic systems, and electromagnetic compatibility.
The key elements of the terms of reference of WATRI are:
|
 |
to be an institute of excellence in telecommunications, networking and electronic designs, research areas of importance to industry; to establish postgraduate programs to serve the needs of design engineers and R&D managers in relevant industries, and to sustain a strong research base in Australia in telecommunications and networking.
Consistent with the terms of reference, the institute's research methodology includes implementation and realisation phases and these lead to a significant design component in its postgraduate courses.
